FALCONS

Merlin

  • Small falcon, slightly larger than a Kestrel.
  • Brown plummage for immature birds and mature females; males acquire bluish plummage after first moult.
  • World-wide distribution from high mid-latitudes north to Artic tree-line.
  • Hunts small birds, mostly starlings in falconry.
  • Superb falcon for lure flying.
